Welcome to the College of Applied Chinese Studies!

First of all, let me begin by explaining the keyword in the name of our college – “Applied Chinese Studies”. The word “applied” should be understood in two aspects. First, it reflects the emphasis in our teaching content as we highlight the language applicability in Chinese language teaching. Second, in terms of talent cultivation, our college takes the development of applied, comprehensive, and innovative international talents in “Chinese+” majors as its main task.

Our college has two major highlights. To put it simply, students studying in our college can learn “more” and learn “fast”. “Learning more” means that in addition to general Chinese language courses, our college also offers many specialized Chinese courses, such as the Chinese language in the workplace, business, culture and tourism, health science, etc. The courses aim to improve students’ language knowledge and skills in multiple fields, uplifting our students’ competitiveness in future employment. “Learning fast” means that students in our college can improve their Chinese language proficiency in the shortest time. The reason why we can achieve this goal is that our college has the most influential intensive language teaching system in the field of international Chinese education. And this system has won China’s National Teaching Achievement Award.

To meet the increasingly diverse learning needs of Chinese language learners around the world, we adhere to the educational philosophy of student-centred and diversified integration. All our efforts are to provide students from all over the world with the best learning achievements and the most enjoyable learning experiences.

We have an excellent teaching team of 74 faculty members. Nearly 80% of our faculty have overseas teaching experience, mainly from the former College of Intensive Chinese Studies. The College of Intensive Chinese Studies was founded in 1978. It was a professional college that provided short-term, intensive Chinese language education to international students in China. Over the past 40 years since its establishment, it has cultivated more than 100,000 short-term international students from more than 100 countries and regions around the world.

As Confucius once said, “What a joy it is to have friends come from afar”. The College of Applied Chinese Studies welcomes friends from all over the world with an open and friendly attitude. We also have a saying in China, “Fate brings people together, no matter how far apart they may be”. The word “fate” in this sentence is beautiful and magical.
